Read Far & Wide Celebrates the Bond Between Traveling & Reading
This is a space that invites travelers and readers to share their stories
and find an inspiring community to Read Far & Wide.
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
Mark Twain, Innocents Abroad
The Broken Road
Since I was a young teen, spiritual abuse has been part of my story. I didn’t know the term at the time, but my journey of traveling through faith communities has not included smooth paths.
Yet, I continue on this pilgrimage walking this broken road of faith, hearing from fellow travelers’ painful stories, and experiencing pain myself from places that should be safe. Through this journey, I’ve discovered sustenance from a variety of sources.
A fellow traveler and I have become fast friends through our shared hope of creating safe spaces for those who experience spiritual abuse, so we have created “The Broken Road.”
If you are a weary traveler who has experienced bumps, hiccups, and the nightmare of a trip gone wrong in your faith journey, we hope the Broken Road will be a space for you.
So just as a beautiful vista, comforting beverage and a place to rest weary feet can provide time to regroup during a trip, we hope that these resources can be of equal help to those wandering the broken road of spiritual abuse.
