The Broken Road

The Broken Road is for people who have experienced pain in faith communities. We offer a curated collection of resources that can help in processing and healing. We honor that every experience is different, and we hope to share encouragement and wisdom with other fellow travelers on this challenging and broken road.

You are Not Alone

We join the many people working to end abuse in faith communities by amplifying their voices. We want to help empower those who are healing from spiritual abuse and those who seek to lovingly come alongside ones who are hurting.

Who We Are

Mindelynn Young Godbout and Abram Kielsmeier-Jones became fast friends in 2023 through their shared commitment to care for victims of spiritual abuse in their communities. They discussed resources with each other as well as with other friends, and have built a community of allies to travel alongside those who hurt. Their hope is for victims to know they are believed and are not alone. Both avid readers, Mindelynn and Abram believe that this collection of resources provides “friends in print” for those who are needing to know they are not alone.

Mindelynn Young Godbout

Mindelynn Young Godbout is a Midwesterner who has found an unexpected home in New England and a Middle School teacher who, for 20 years, found an unexpected profession in political fundraising.

In 2021, she exited politics and now enjoys spending time with her husband, Sean, their son, Jack, and mini-goldendoodle, Charley, as they explore all that Boston has to offer, as well as traveling near and far. In addition, she is currently developing her blog www.readfarandwide.com, which is a space where fellow readers and travelers can find a space to connect and build friendships

Aware of the horrors of spiritual abuse from a young age, Mindelynn considers advocating for victims a high calling.

Abram Kielsmeier-Jones

Abram Kielsmeier-Jones (Abram K-J, for short) is husband to Sarah and father of three wonderful school-aged children. He was the last holdout in the K-J family before they adopted a rescue lab-hound mix just a few months before the pandemic.

Abram pastors a diverse Christian church in the heart of Boston. He has been a trainer in faith-based software since 2015. He has spent more than twenty years in youth and pastoral ministry, working at small, mid-sized, and large churches in Illinois, Virginia, and Massachusetts.

He loves to run, box (heavy bag only! not people), play guitar, write music, and advocate for children, youth, and other vulnerable people wherever he can. He writes at www.abramkj.com.
