Travels With Charley

Today is our mini-golden doodle’s “Gotcha Day” and it is certainly a day worth celebrating. Seeing Charley was unconditional love at first sight for all of us, as we experienced his kisses and tail wags from the moment we held him in our arms. He chose us, as much as we chose him.

By way of background, we named Charley after John Steinbeck’s travelogue Travels with Charley. In the book, Steinbeck chronicles a road trip across the country with his beloved poodle in 1960. He sets out on his road trip with the question, “What are Americans like today?” and through experiencing several adventures with his travel buddy, Steinbeck makes beautiful observations about the complexities in our country.

In naming our dog after Steinbeck’s Charley, we hope that our son will have many adventures and learn many lessons with his best buddy by his side. So to celebrate Charley’s first “Gotcha Day” - below are a few of our favorite memories of our first year of our Travels with Charley.
